How to prepare for your headshot
Hair & Make-up
Arrive with your hair styled in a way that makes you feel confident. A little bit of product can help keep your hair in place and minimize flyaways for an outdoor shoot, but is not necessary.
Apply the amount of make-up you would normally apply. A little bit of foundation is helpful, some eye liner to define the eyes can be good too. I do recommend some lipstick and blush - natural tones are good if you don’t normally wear it.
Basic grooming can go a long way in photos!
What to wear
Embrace your personal style. In general, I recommend dressing business casual for your industry. Solid colors are less distracting, but prints can look great too. If wearing a print, I recommend one print combined with solids. Choose tailored clothes that are dry cleaned or ironed - no wrinkles! Whether you wear very bright hues or mid-tones depends on your style and industry. Lawyers tend to wear darker colors to appear most professional but if you’re in a creative field, prints and bright colors can be very appropriate. You can also check with your company about any consistent brand or look they are seeking for company headshots.
Some jewelry and accessories are nice - if you’re wearing a scarf, it would be a good idea to plan for also removing the scarf for some of the images. Jewelry should not be too big or distracting.
What to bring with you
Hairbrush, small mirror, make-up to touch up lips, some tissues, something to change up your look if we’re not doing a full outfit change (a different jacket or a scarf) and a lint remover if you’re wearing darker colors.
